Cal League roundup: Thursday, August 3



The Inland Empire 66ers defeated the San Jose Giants, 5-1, in a California League game at Municipal Stadium.

Brandon Sandoval and Jordan Zimmerman each supplied RBIs in the third for 2-0 lead for Inland Empire. Zimmerman kept it going with his RBI-single in the fifth. He then scored on Jared Walsh’s double.

Jack Kruger’s RBI-single secured a comfy 5-0 lead. Dillon Dobson had a RBI for San Jose in the eighth.

Luis Pena (6-10) took home the win as he pitched seven innings, allowed seven hits and no runs and struck out eight.

Rod Boykin homered and went 2 for 4 in Lake Elsinore’s win over Modesto at The Diamond.

Following a two-run deficit, Austin Allen and Fernando Perez each hit a RBI-double to tie the game in the third. Boykin’s homer in the seventh gave the Storm the lead, and Allen added a RBI the same inning.

Edwin Moreno’s RBI-single in the eighth secured a 5-2 lead. Trevor Frank (W, 3-1) pitched 2 1/3 innings, striking out three and allowing four hits and one run.

Keibert Ruiz and Darien Tubbs each had a RBI in Rancho Cucamonga’s loss to Lancaster at LoanMart Field. Micahel Boyle (L, 4-4) pitched five innings and struck out one
