Hospice of the Valleys, based in Murrieta, is seeking people to volunteer with the organization.
Hospice volunteers often serve patients and families at the bedside but they also assist in the office, help raise awareness, contribute to educational programs and provide fundraising support.
Hospice of the Valleys will offer training for volunteers 9:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 9, and Thursday, Oct. 11, at 25240 Hancock Ave., Suite 120, Murrieta. Those who work with patients take both days of training. Other volunteers take one day of training.
To register for training, contact Christy Lawless at 951-200-7800 or clawless@hovsc.org.
“Hospice of the Valleys was founded by volunteers 35 years ago and our volunteers continue to play an indispensable role in providing the very best care possible for our patients, their families and caregivers,” said Dr. Leslee Cochrane, executive medical director, in a press release.
According to the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization, there are an estimated 430,000 trained hospice volunteers providing more than 19 million hours of service to hospice programs each year and an estimated 1.6 million people in the United States are cared for by hospice every year.
