A member of a Norco-based equestrian drill team suffered a serious head injury Tuesday, Oct. 23, when she was thrown from her horse at the Ingalls Equestrian Event Center.
Friends identified the woman as Norco resident Nancy Kurtz-Lane. Public Facebook posts said that while she was warning up for drill practice, her horse tripped while trotting and Kurtz-Lane hit her head on the ground. The accident happened about 7:15 p.m., and she was hospitalized with serious injuries, Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department said.
Kurtz-Lane was in a medically induced coma at Riverside Community Hospital. The swelling of her brain had subsided somewhat by Wednesday afternoon, Facebook posts said.
Kurtz-Lane rides with Mane Attraction Equestrian Drill Team, which participated in the 2018 Tournament of Roses Parade, among other events. She has lived in Norco since 1974 and was crowned Miss Norco Rodeo Queen in 1979, according to her biography on the team website.
Friends are collecting donations for Kurtz-Lane, a self-employed hairdresser.
