A 41-year-old Mentone man was arrested Tuesday, Feb. 19, after entering a residence at a Redlands assisted-living and retirement community carrying a load of a woman’s laundry and exposing himself to the 88-year-old victim, Redlands police said.
The victim reported that she was sitting on her couch about 12:30 p.m. Feb. 3 when a man entered her room at Mission Commons, 10 Terracina Blvd., carrying a basket filled with the victim’s clothing. The man put the basket down and exposed himself.
When the victim told the suspect to get out of her room, he fled on foot. The suspect was seen leaving in a 2010 silver Ford Focus with a Canadian flag air freshener hanging from the rearview mirror, a news release said.
Investigators developed a sketch of the suspect, whom they later identified as Darrell Robert Finstad. Tuesday, police served search warrants at Finstad’s home in the 2200 block of Nice Avenue in Mentone, and at his workplace in Yucaipa. Evidence was located that led to Finstad’s arrest. He is being held in lieu of $125,000 bail on suspicion of indecent exposure, burglary and elder abuse.
Police ask anyone with information on the case to contact the Redlands Police Department at 909-798-7681 or Detective Chris Mead at cmead@redlandspolice.org.
