Driver dies after being struck by man who ran stop sign, Hemet police say

A 61-year-old Hemet woman died Sunday, June 9, after another driver ran a stop sign and struck her vehicle, the Hemet Police Department said.

Victoria Fleming died at the scene, police said.

The collision happened about 6:40 p.m. Todd Schmidt, driving a 2005 Ford F-150, was driving east on Commonwealth Avenue when he failed to stop at Lyon Avenue and struck Fleming’s 2017 Nissan Rogue, which was northbound on Lyon, a news release said.

Schmidt suffered what were described as moderate injuries and was hospitalized. He had not been booked into jail as of Wednesday night.
