A 4-year-old who was “not properly restrained” in a child safety seat when two vehicles collided late Saturday night in Riverside was critically injured in the crash, police said.
Several people were taken to hospitals after the wreck, Riverside Police Sgt. Erich Feimer said. There were no details on how many were transported, or the degree of their injuries.
The child, who was not further identified, was taken to Loma Linda University Medical Center with “significant brain bleed,” Feimer wrote.
The crash just before 10:45 a.m. Saturday on Main Street near Garner Road in Riverside was between a silver 2006 Dodge van, driven by a 38-year-old Riverside woman, and a 2003 blue Chevrolet Tahoe driven by a 49-year-old Pomona woman. Neither driver was further identified.
The Dodge was going south on Main Street and the Chevrolet was heading north when the Dodge crossed the center median and into opposite traffic lanes, Feimer said. The injured child was in the rear of the Dodge.
The crash is under investigation, and Feimer said the reason for the Dodge crossing the median is not known. Impaired driving is not believed to have been a factor, he said.
