The City of Hope has opened a cancer center in conjunction with San Antonio Regional Hospital in Upland, bringing its cancer treatment services closer to people in the Inland Empire.
The opening of the Duarte-based City of Hope annex in Upland on Thursday, Oct. 24, could be seen as an alternative to Loma Linda University Health, which bills itself as the only cancer-treatment center serving San Bernardino and Riverside counties.
“Our opening means that’s no longer the case,” explained Zen Vuong, spokesperson for City of Hope. “Now, Inland Empire residents have additional close-to-home options if they or a loved one has cancer.”
The new 25,000-square-foot cancer center offers medical oncology, treatment rooms for those receiving chemotherapy or radiation plus surgery for subspecialties in breast, urology, gynecologic oncology and colorectal cancers.
The new facility is located across the street from the main San Antonio Regional Hospital, at 1100 San Bernardino Road in Upland. It will house nine cancer specialists, 25 exam rooms, two procedure rooms and 23 infusion chairs for chemotherapy patients. It also offers phase 2 and phase 3 clinical trials, according to the City of Hope.
On the second floor of what it is calling an outpatient center, the Upland hospital will supply support for City of Hope cancer patients, basically providing a one-stop shop for patients who need diagnostic testing and preoperative services.
“Linking City of Hope’s world-class cancer care and research with our 112-year tradition of providing high-quality patient care is creating a seamless continuum of care for cancer patients right here, close to home,” John Chapman, chief operating officer and interim chief executive officer of San Antonio Regional, said in a prepared statement.
City of Hope is moving doctors and staff from its smaller Rancho Cucamonga facility to the Upland center, Vuong said.
