Who’s in? Who’s out? Who has to wait? Playoff chances for Inland football teams

The CIF Southern Section will release pairings for the 11-man football playoffs Sunday.

The section transitioned to a competitive-equity system four years ago, so league teams no longer are grouped into the same playoff division. It also means finishing third place in a league with six or more members does not necessarily guarantee a team a spot in the playoffs.

In some divisions, third-place teams will be left out because there were at least 16 teams that finished first or second in league. At the other end of the spectrum, a handful of area teams that were 0-10 or 1-9 technically have not been eliminated, though their selection would be a surprise.
