LOS ANGELES — The Dodgers added three minor-leaguers to their 40-man roster Wednesday afternoon, protecting them from next month’s Rule 5 draft.
Outfielder D.J. Peters, right-hander Mitchell White and infielder Zach McKinstry were added to the 40-man roster for the first time in their careers. The Dodgers now have no openings on their 40-man roster.
A fourth-round pick out of Western Nevada Community College in 2016, Peters is considered one of the top power prospects in the Dodgers’ system. He was the California League MVP in 2017 and has hit 92 home runs with a .501 slugging percentage in four minor-league seasons, including 23 last year when he split the year between Double-A and Triple-A. Peters hit .249 with an .811 OPS in 57 games at Triple-A.
White was the Dodgers’ second-round draft pick out of Santa Clara in 2016. His development has been hindered by an assortment of injuries. He reached Triple-A for the first time last season but went 3-6 with a 6.50 ERA and 1.52 WHIP in 16 games (13 starts) for Triple-A Oklahoma City.
McKinstry was the Dodgers’ 33rd-round pick out of Central Michigan in that 2016 draft. Playing multiple positions (primarily second base and shortstop), McKinstry hit .300 with an .882 OPS and 19 home runs while advancing from Double-A to Triple-A last season.
The annual Rule 5 draft will be conducted Dec. 12 during the Winter Meetings in San Diego.
