Santa Ana River bottom fire kept to 4 acres on windy day in Riverside

A fire on a windy Monday afternoon broke out along the Santa Ana River bottom in Riverside near Martha McClean-Anza Narrows Park but was stopped at four acres, firefighters said.

No homes were threatened, and no injuries were reported, Riverside Fire Capt. Brian Guzzetta said.

The fire’s cause had not been disclosed yet.

Crews were expected to remain on the scene during the afternoon to ensure the blaze was out.

On Thursday, a wind-driven fire ate up 70 acres and threatened homes and briefly forced evacuations. That fire was probably started by “an unattended encampment,” firefighters said.
