Ontario man arrested on suspicion of attempted kidnapping in Montclair

An Ontario man was arrested last week on suspicion of annoying a child and attempted kidnapping in Montclair.

Braulio Becerra tried to entice a 17-year-old girl to come with him by saying he knew a member of her family, the Montclair Police Department said in a statement. This happened as the girl was walking home from the Pomona Indoor Swap Meet on Tuesday, March 10 at around 3:30 p.m.

The incident happened on the 4200 block of Holt Boulevard, authorities said.

“The victim ignored the suspect and continued walking away,” police said. “The suspect returned to his car, drove up to the victim, and demanded she get in his vehicle.”

Police said the girl ran away into a nearby business and called police.

Police reviewed surveillance video during the investigation, which led them to Becerra. Court records show Becerra was arrested Tuesday, March 10 at around 7:45 p.m. on suspicion of attempted kidnapping and annoying a child, and booked into the West Valley Detention Center.

Becerra was released on bail on Wednesday, March 11 at around 11 p.m.
