Inland Empire looks eerily empty because of coronavirus

No strikes are being thrown at LoanMart Field.

Traffic near the 60-215 freeway interchange in Riverside looks like it’s Christmas Day.

And Victoria Gardens is a ghost town.

These images illustrate the scene across the eerily empty Inland Empire, where like the rest of California, life is suddenly different because of the coronavirus pandemic. After Gov. Gavin Newsom’s stay-at-home order, everything changed.

The Rancho Cucamonga Quakes were supposed to kick off their 2020 minor-league season Thursday, April 9, by hosting the Inland Empire 66ers. Public places, from Victoria Gardens in Rancho Cucamonga to a steak house in Oak Glen, are deserted. And, at once-bustling Ontario International Airport, few travelers were visible outside a quiet terminal.
