Rain delays Angels’ Cactus League opener

TEMPE, Ariz. — A rainstorm brought morning showers to Tempe Diablo Stadium postponing the home portion of the Los Angeles Angels split squad Spring Training opener against the Kansas City Royals on Saturday and canceling the away matchup against the White Sox.

Players hit in the cages and some threw long toss in a light drizzle as most games across the greater Phoenix area were rained out with the Dodgers and Cubs getting their game started at 3:15 p.m. and the A’s and Cubs game to be played at 6 p.m. The Royals and Angels will make-up their game on March 6.

A small group of avid fans stood at the fence outside the players’ parking lot at Tempe Diablo Stadium hoping for autographs or a Shohei Ohtani sighting.
